COMMUNITY, CREATIVITY & SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
North Coast Live is the latest creative industries project initiated by the Breen Centre April 2020. Our aim is to provide education, training and employment opportunities for the community in the northern rural and coastal areas of county Antrim and beyond!
Below are examples of the type of projects we have already produced or collaborated with local artists, musicians, community organisations, charities, businesses and events. Our aim with the project is to focus on the potential of community, creative industries and commercial activities as a means to develop a sustainable social enterprise in partnership with local communities, statutory agencies, and Causeway & Glens council.
MUSIC & MEDIA PRODUCTION TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Below is online content generated from our ‘live’ WebTV production facilities which are in need of upgrading to provide industry level training for young people in all aspects of Creative Industries and Music production. We can offer a range of OCN accredited educational interventions in media and music production details of which can be accessed at the bottom of this page.
INFORMATION, COMMUNICATION & PARTNERSHIP
Below are examples of our strategy for engaging with local communities and businesses to create and enhance information about local/regional services, opportunities for training and employment through our work based learning programmes and promotion/income generation with the support of the local business community to create dialogue and partnership projects with local communities.
Working in collaboration with further and higher education institutions, the Changemaker initiative provides a ‘bridge’ between communities, students and research initiatives which identify and help address social need through targeted interventions with follow up and support from regional and national educational institutions. We have already engaged in several projects with the University of Northampton and are currently exploring opportunities with regional colleges in Northern Ireland and Swarthmore College Philadelphia.
Our latest projects include collaborative academic and community research around educational underachievement in North Belfast. Our next project will focus on historical stigmatisation of working class areas by the media and offer new approaches to help tackle this issue.
